Journal Entry 4: Business Idea

Within different communities there are a variety of issues that may need more attention of the greater public. One particular issue within my community is poverty. This affects many throughout neighboring cities, preventing children from going to school and instead get jobs to help in their household, or scarcity of food within a household. Poverty has stricken many people at all times, however during the winter it is when I see my community suffer the most. My community is surrounded by construction workers, in which they become unemployed during the winter due to lack of jobs available. This seasonal unemployment affects the lives of families that may go hungry and require the help of their community when their parents or partners have no income. Many may help them, but how can this be fixed on a larger scale?

An idea I came up with to better help these people that suffer seasonal unemployment is to create t-shirts to sell. Money from sales would be kept to cover costs, if money had not been donated, and the proceeds would go to families in need. However, the money would be given as needed, ie, to pay bills, purchase foods, etc. I, along with volunteers, would go to families in need and offer to help with what they could not afford. The t-shirts would be advocating to help others in need, and to donate to the cause so that more shirts could be sold and more money assistance could be given to these families and individuals. I would publicize it on social media such as facebook, instagram, and twitter, to reach a larger group of people to donate and purchase the shirts. Selling these shirts would greatly help those stricken by poverty due to lack of job availability.
